GPI

The 10th grade division of the US Amateur Basketball National Championships was deep and full of talented teams. So getting to the title game was half the battle.

The top two teams who made it to the big stage made sure the title game was as good as you would expect it to be.

The GPI All-Stars beat the Atlanta Playmakers 59-53 in a terrific battle.

Deshaun Osborne scored a game high 19 points in the win. Shakur Poteet scores 17 points and hit four three-pointers, capping off a great week of work.

Hollywood Stars

The Hollywood Stars beat Nike Team Florida 62-52 to win the 8th Grade US Amateur Basketball National Championship.

Both teams had a tremendous week in Gainesville and it was fitting they met each other in the title game.

The Hollywood Stars were led by Brayden Baker, who scored a team high 14 points. Khristian Clark scored 13 points. Makaleb McBride scored 12 points. Tyler Griffin scored 11 points. Alajon Williams scored nine points.

Wellington Wolves

The Wellington Wolves and NSE teams impressed anyone that watched them over the weekend at the US Amateur Basketball National Championships. So when the two powers locked horns in the title game of the 7th grade division, it didn’t come as a big surprise that the match-up was as good as you’d hope it would be.

The two teams traded buckets all game long and the Wellington Wolves scored one more than NSE to claim the title.

A second half spurt from the N.E Jax Gamechangers put the Suns Team Harris way as they won the 16U division championship. The gamechangers were on a tear all weekend, beating several opponents by a double-digit margin. Their defense was stifling as they held the Suns Team Harris to just 38 points total, many of which were earned every bit of the way. Korin Bradley was named as the 16U division MVP and for good reason. Several box scores over the weekend were peppered with his scoring spurts.

The Riviera Beach Chargers went home as champions this past weekend in the 8th grade division at the Florida Girls State Qualifier.  They started things off with a 35-29 win over South Florida Fast Break.  They then defeated Bad Girls 47-38.  They ended pool play with a demoralizing loss to MSC Jr. Allstars, 13-46.  Their 2-1 pool play record earned them a spot in the championship with a chance at redemption against MSC Jr. Allstars.  They took the opportunity at hand and defeated the MSC Jr. Allstars 49-41 to take home the championship.

Congratulations to the Jupiter Jaguars on winning the Florida Girls State Qualifier.  They kicked off the weekend with a 37-34 victory over the Hurricanes.  They followed it up with a commanding 51-29 win over Flight Time.  They then capped off pool play with a 38-35 victory over South Florida Fastbreak.  Their 3-0 mark in pool play placed them into the championship with a rematch against the Hurricanes. This game went almost the same as it did before, with the Jaguars pulling out the win by a score of 46-43.
